Each year, thousands of humpbacks travel roughly 3,000 miles from Alaska to breed, calve, and nurse their young in Hawaii's warm, protected waters, with the Kona coast offering some of the best whale-watching conditions in the state. Humpback whale season in Hawaii runs roughly from December through April, with peak activity typically in January and February.
