A pelagic wildlife viewing tour takes guests offshore into the open ocean — beyond the coral reef — to encounter species that inhabit the deeper, bluer waters of the Pacific. Off Kona's coast, this includes spinner dolphins that ride the boat's bow wake, resident pods of pilot whales, occasional oceanic whitetip sharks, and a range of other open-water marine life that most visitors to Hawaii never get to see. During winter months (roughly December through April), humpback whales migrate through Hawaiian waters, making seasonal whale watching a highlight of our wildlife tour calendar. Mid-Pacific Tours runs these excursions in small groups of no more than 6 guests aboard a well-maintained Zodiac, allowing us to navigate quickly to wildlife sightings, get closer than larger vessels can, and provide a more responsive, naturalist-guided experience in the open ocean.
